The coast has the hospitality base and the location to host major conferences, exhibitions and events what it’s lacked is a purpose-built venue to anchor them. EDIC is working with hotel operators and site partners to bring forward a MICE convention precinct in Mombasa, designed to draw regional and international business events, extend visitor stays beyond the beach, and create a new anchor for the coast’s tourism economy.
The Gap
- No international-standard MICE facility exists on the Kenyan coast
- Mombasa hosts only 5 of Kenya's 29 major association meetings each year
- Existing venues cap at ~2,500 delegates, with no integrated convention campus
Why Now
- Kenya tourism arrivals reached 2.5M in 2025, earning KShs 500bn
- Coastal demand is rising — 14% growth in international arrivals, 140% surge in cruise tourism
- Prime public land already provided in-kind by county government under a Build-Operate-Transfer PPP framework
