The EDIC team, led by their Executive Director, John Kashangaki, met with the Kwale County Government CEC in charge of Tourism, Trade and Enterprise Development, Michael Mutua.
The visit was centered on gaining insights from Waziri Mutua and his team about Kwale County’s priority sectors for development and investment, and identifying key areas of potential support from EDIC. Some of the opportunities discussed included agro-processing, eco-tourism, heritage sites improvement, a conference facility and access roads.
On its part, EDIC is ready to extend specialist collaboration to Kwale County Government in advancing these projects both in terms of structuring to bankability, investor outreach and policy support. Similarly, the EDIC team later met the Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mombasa, Stefan Wentzel. Consul Wentzel, a respected investor in Diani himself, provided useful context on the various investment opportunities in Kwale County, including a language training facility and electric mobility vehicles. Critically, he also identified some areas that need intervention to improve the business environment in Kwale County.
EDIC offered to work closely with Consul Wentzel in developing the specific opportunities and partner with relevant German institutions in Kenya such as the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK) to advance conversations on the potential projects in the coastal region
